A cotton twill cap can show a different diagonal relationship when the fabric face or panel direction changes. That detail is easiest to control before cutting, with an identifiable swatch and marked panel map. The cap name alone does not explain which face and orientation were accepted.

Retain an identified fabric face
CottonWorks explains that diagonal lines identify a twill weave. Mark the selected outward face on the physical reference and record the actual fabric, declared composition, mass, shade and finish.
Show the visible diagonal in a close view. Keep a brushed, washed or other finish version under its own reference where it changes the surface being approved. A shared colour name does not identify all of those cloth details.
Map direction against the cap pattern
Mark the requested orientation on the front, side, rear and visor pieces where it matters. Use arrows and named views rather than relying on a verbal instruction such as “same direction.” Identify the joins that have a visual priority.
Review the proposed relationship on the assembled crown. Curved pattern pieces and seam angles affect how a diagonal is seen, so ask the pattern team to assess the required appearance with the actual fabric. Record an accepted transition instead of assuming a flat stripe will continue unchanged around every seam.
Check finish and decoration on the selected face
Compare the completed sample with the retained swatch and direction map. Look at panel shade, visible diagonal, seam appearance and the relevant finished state. If treatment occurs after assembly, keep that stage visible in the sample record.
Review the intended decoration at its actual dimensions and location. Inspect the graphic, surrounding cloth and inside result. A different face, finish or support should be identifiable when deciding whether the earlier application approval still applies.

Retain the marked fabric reference, cap views and accepted sample identity. Review a proposed substitute for visible diagonal, shade and finish as well as the required material information. The same trade name does not settle a new fabric version.
