A recycled polyester cap request should identify the recycled material and the evidence expected for it. A shell, mesh panel, sweatband and closure may use different materials. The claim needs to describe the relevant component or finished item clearly, with supporting records that match the proposed supply route.

Map the recycled-content request by component
List the parts covered by the request and identify the proposed material for each. Record the declared fibre composition and recycled proportion where applicable. Keep excluded or unconfirmed components visible in the material file.
Ask whether a stated percentage concerns a fabric, a component or the complete product, and what calculation or supporting basis applies. Avoid moving a shell-fabric description onto the whole cap without resolving that scope.
Request evidence for the actual material route
Where RCS or GRS certification is specified, identify the applicable standard, certified organisations, component references and relevant transaction documentation. Match the evidence to the proposed material and order rather than retain an unrelated certificate as a general reassurance.
Textile Exchange explains the Recycled Claim Standard and Global Recycled Standard, including chain-of-custody certification. GRS also includes additional processing requirements. Eligibility and permission to use a consumer-facing label need to be checked against the applicable claims rules.
Keep the material claim separate from performance
Recycled content does not establish a cap’s drying rate, airflow, durability or water resistance. If one of those properties is required, define the relevant component or finished-product question and agree suitable evidence for that question.
Sample the actual shell with its support, sweatband, visor, closure and decoration. Review fit, appearance and any proposed finish on that combination. Keep a visually similar substitute provisional until its material identity and required evidence have been reviewed.
