Fitted Cap Quality Checklist: Measurements, Size Labels and Lot Inspection

A fitted cap quality checklist should connect each inspected cap with the correct size specification and approved sample. A neat-looking cap can still carry the wrong size label, use an unapproved component or differ from the intended crown profile.

Use the Fitted Cap Sizing and Buying Guide to establish the product requirements. Then agree the inspection scope, measurement method and decision criteria for the actual order.

Identify the goods and the controlling references

Record the order, style, colorway, artwork version and sizes included in the inspection. Identify the lot or work group being assessed and the specification revision that applies. Keep the approved sample and any accepted exceptions available.

Confirm whether the sample represents final materials and trims. If an earlier sample used a temporary label or sweatband, the inspector needs the approved final reference alongside the appearance sample.

Check the size label against the cap itself

Read the exact size label and connect it with the relevant row in the size chart. Check the finished cap using the defined measurement points, units and method. A correct label does not establish that the cap meets the corresponding measurement requirements.

The OEM fitted specification guide explains how to document those points and tolerances. Identify any difference by its measurement code and actual result rather than reporting only that the cap is “wrong size.”

Review shape and construction using consistent views

Compare crown depth, panel balance, front structure and visor attachment with the accepted reference. Use front, side and rear views in the agreed condition. Record the location of a shape difference so the team can distinguish a crown issue from a visor or attachment issue.

For a range of fixed sizes, use the applicable reference for each size. The size-set silhouette review helps define how proportions and placements were accepted across the range.

Inspect seams, inside finish and decoration

Review panel joins, visor attachment, sweatband stitching and trim attachment against the agreed workmanship criteria. Identify loose ends, open stitching or an edge needing attention by its actual position. Check the inside presentation as well as the exterior.

Compare logo dimensions, placement, legibility and color references with the approved version. Where different sizes or colorways use different artwork, identify the applicable file before judging the result. Keep any decoration finding connected to that version.

Use a size-specific inspection sheet

Agree the sampling and acceptance method

Define the lot, size and variant coverage, inspection scope and decision process before checking begins. If acceptance sampling is used, have the responsible parties agree the applicable plan, inspection level, AQLs and defect classifications.

ISO 2859-1:2026 describes AQL-indexed sampling schemes for inspection by attributes. The sampling method and the detailed cap requirements are separate parts of the inspection instruction. Record the selected samples and findings under the method agreed for the order.

Reconcile packing by size and item

Match label and item data with the packing list and actual carton contents. For mixed-size cartons, check the stated ratio and the final partial carton where applicable. The overall unit count should agree with the breakdown for each variant.

Use the wholesale fitted receiving guide to organize that reconciliation. For split deliveries, keep the inspection and release record connected to the appropriate size-run balance.

Record the finding and the next decision

Include the affected item, reference, location and evidence in a finding. State the quantity or group involved and the agreed next action, such as clarification, correction or another check. Keep unresolved findings visible until an authorized decision is recorded.

Retain the report with the approved specification and release records. It should be possible to understand what was inspected, against which requirements and what the outcome covered without relying on a general “QC passed” message.

Common fitted-cap quality questions

Is checking the printed size enough?

Check the label assignment and the finished measurements against the applicable size specification.

Does acceptance sampling guarantee every cap is identical?

The result is a decision under the agreed sampling plan. Keep the product criteria and any additional inspection commitments explicit.

What makes a useful inspection photograph?

It identifies the item and location of the finding, with the relevant measurement or reference where needed to explain the difference.

Prepare a fitted-cap inspection brief

Review the fitted cap product page, then send Wenext Caps your specification and inspection requirements. Include the size chart, approved samples and the points that need an agreed check.
